Profile

Description

New Vintage! This wine was previously featured in the store, but is back by popular demand! Murray Darling is located in the larger region of New South Wales. It is the second largest in size, and produces a quarter of the total wine produced in Australia. The nearly 1,000 growers are predominantly located in the south, where the region borders with Victoria. Not surprising, the name of the region is a combination of the two rivers that flow through it, Murray and Darling, converging in the town of Wentworth. This apex point is home to the majority of vineyards. Here, more than 100,000 tons of Chardonnay is produced, and about 15% of the county's Shiraz production. As with many regions around the world, you can find vineyard planted along river valleys. In addition to the necessary irrigation (especially in this dry climate where drought is a recurring and controversial issue) the soils from river beds provide the perfect place to plant grapes. Shiraz from Murray Darling is approachable and fruity, making it a 'drink now' kind of Shiraz. With a couple years in bottle, this wine is ready to enjoy today and should be served at 18 C.

Pairing

Kick off BBQ season with a bang! Invite the neighbours and grill up ribs and sausages. There is enough spice in this wine to hold its own to a peppery rub, and enough fruity sweetness to balance the smothering of sauces.

Aromas and Flavours

Pepper

A whiff of a freshly used pepper grinder - spicy and fresh, without the itchy nose.

Cherry

Fresh B.C. cherries out of the back of a truck, all eaten before you can get them home!

Plum

Sweet, fruity and sensual, similar stone fruit aromas to a peach, but without the 'fuzziness'.

Blueberry

Eating handfuls of berries straight from the bush, your fingers stained purple for days to come.

Leaf

When was the last time you raked up all the leaves in your yard and jumped in the pile?
