Profile

Description

Ready for some hot-button wine grape politics? While it's grown elsewhere in the world, Vermentino is native to northern Italy, and keen as they always are to safeguard their vinous heritage, the Italian government has embarked on a campaign to protect their name for this ancient grape. With that aim, they've begun forcing their French neighbours to use a much lesser-known (and less marketable) name: Rolle. Thankfully, regardless of the name it goes by, Rolle makes for some seriously delicious white wine! Here, it contributes freshness and acidity to balance out Roussanne's richness in this unoaked blend from Bachellery. This family-owned estate is currently helmed by fourth-generation Bernard Julien and his sons Yannick and Brice. The domaine itself was listed in city records as far back as the middle ages, with grape-growing a part of this land's history since at least that time. Their Fleur de Sel is a modern take on the region's typical white wines, and can be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years at about 10 C.

Pairing

Pair this wine's bright acidity and medium body with traditional fish and chips or with cod braised in a spicy tomato sauce.
